This is the center of my Insanity Quilt. I'm using 30's Reproduction fabrics. It took what feels like a life time to stitch each and every hex into a diamond, then attaching all the diamonds on a diagonal with the white hex's around.
Each Hex measures 1/2", can you imagine!!! Here's the kicker, there are 10,339 of these little hex's in the completed top. Needless to say one has to be insane to attempt this project. The original pattern can be found in the June 2008 issue of Australian Patchwork and Quilting. The pattern actually was designed using English Paper Piecing. I chose to use Inklingo, so I could hand piece this top.
Well, it's been awhile since I worked on this top. I found it while unpacking..... I decided it was time to try and put a few more hex's on. One thing led to another, one row of white and then a pink border was added. I couldn't stop, so a round of hex flowers were added and finally another pink border.
is what it looks like now with the additional borders added on. My fingers hurt a bit from the hand piecing, but don't you just love how it is all coming together? Will print more white hex's this week and will continue on by adding the next all white border.
Come back soon to see how I have progressed.
